What Does Billing And Coding Have to Do With Medicine?
When I worked in the field of medical billing and coding, one of my favorite books was the current edition of the ICD codes. In the billing department of the practice in which I worked, we laughingly referred to the book as our “Billing Bible” because any time there was even the slightest doubt about the proper diagnosis code or type of treatment, we went to The Book and looked it up. A critical aspect of our work was accuracy, because it often was the only thing that guaranteed payment to our doctors by the insurance companies. So we were extremely careful to be accurate.
